Sheep Ultrasound Pregnancy Course Information

The Beginner Course

Target Audience: The targeted audience for the Beginner Course is for beginners with no prior scanning experience.

Format: The course will consist of 3 days: one half day of theory plus two and a half days of scanning. The course is limited to 12 producers to provide an exceptional one on one training experience.  Trainer bio’s including in the course information materials. Participants in the beginner training will fulfill the theory unit of the Canada’s Small Ruminant Ultrasound Pregnancy Assessment Training and Certification Program.

Focus: Topics covered

1. Equipment set up.
2. Operator & Equipment Safety.
3. Basic Theory and principles of Ultrasound.
4. Shape of Ultrasound emitting from probe.
5. Contact of probe with ewe. Probably the most crucial single part of becoming a successful sheep scanner.
6. Identifying Constituent visual parts of pregnancy and surrounding tissues and organs.
7. Developing a scanning technique and system.
8. Decision Making: our objective is to scan the uterine contents, do not guess.
9. Marking Sheep
10. Presentation of sheep for scanning
11. Thoughts about your crate design and repetitive strain risks

Course is a very practical hands-on scanning experience under the guidance and supervision of experienced operators/trainers. The objective is to pass on skills and knowledge so that the trainees develop a sound system for scanning sheep.

Cost: Registration fee is $950 for the 3 days of training. Registration includes the equipment, supplies and lunch and coffee breaks each day.   Participants are responsible to provide suitable clothing.

The Advanced Sheep Ultrasound Pregnancy Course

The advanced course may also constitute the competency evaluation required for certification under the program. This offers a valuable pathway for those looking to advance in ultrasound pregnancy assessment services for small ruminants.

Target Audience: Technicians, veterinarians, and vet techs.

Format: 1 day of strictly scanning under the supervision of the trainers.

Focus: The refresher course will focus on scanning multiples and evaluating proficiency.

Cost: $550 registration includes the equipment, supplies and lunch and coffee breaks.
